Mothers Are Distinctive Blessings to Us For God's Purpose

When is the last time you thanked God for your mother? How often do you pray for your mother? We often take for granted the people who are closest to us and forget that they are purposed for our lives and need our spiritual covering.

God has granted exceptional distinction to a father and a mother, directing their children to highly esteem each one (Exodus 20:12). Parents should be loved unconditionally, regardless of their background, appearance, circumstances or personality. They should be treated with respect without judgment over their abilities and limitations.

There will be many other people to cross your path and who carry greater influence and prestige, but none of them can take the place of your own parent. A spouse, a friend, or another relative may possess greater graces, integrity, and loyalties, but your father and your mother have been appointed by Heaven.

This Mother's Day, really consider the distinctive vessel that God used to birth you into the world. Your mother's body was the first ground that God planted you into for increase. Your mother was your first departure point for open manifestation - from her womb and into the world. She is the source of life before your first breath. She is the first person to labor with you and to push you forward into your destiny.

Your mother was the first person to comfort your tears, and to satisfy your hunger and desires. She was the first person to pardon your weaknesses and self-sacrifice for your well-being. Your mother is your first guide to thankfulness and appreciation.

Honoring our mothers on Mother's Day is an opportunity to obey God in a corporate manner and to personally show love and respect. We can certainly offer gifts as tokens for our feelings, but don't forget to spiritually acknowledge your mother to God through worship, prayer and praise. God has promised to bless those who honor their parents, and we should be confident that He will reward our righteousness in an abundant way.
